What Is The Stand Of Turkey In NATO?
NATO or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is one of the strongest organization in the whole world where its 29 state members main purpose is to defend each other from any possibility of the communist Soviet Union taking control of their nation.
Now one of the very critical issues that has been dealt with in NATO lately is the issue with Turkey, as the members are now on the verge of deciding if this country is a tolerable ally for their cause or not, as there are actions made by Turkey that jeopardize other state leader’s actions because of the behavior of one of their member.
The European Union and NATO are up against the fight of some country establishing states in different countries and claiming ownership, and with Turkey claiming occupancy of Cyprus for almost 1/3 of the country, then it will be more difficult to address such as Turkey being a member of EU and NATO have occupied another member’s territory being Cyprus a member of EU now.
Another factor that is raising an issue especially with the United States is the fact that the US President cannot condemn the regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin for setting up states in other countries not their own, as it is also the what Turkey is doing here.
There are even allegations about the political leaders of Turkey, with them supporting ISIS in a sense that they are delaying measures to weaken the terrorist organization and they have limited support to airstrikes against ISIS and gives little assistance to those that wants to thwart the group.
Another that is of concern with Turkey today is the authoritarianism in Turkey’s domestic affairs and that even includes the manipulation of media to drive President Erdo?an agenda and there are know people that are against his government and agenda are being captured, arrested or unjustly treated.
This political issue is the one that is raising concern from all of NATO members especially from the US President and it has been a continued argument until now if Turkey will remain as a member of NATO and discussions are still in place for such.
Turkey is one of those noted countries that have been noted to have unscrupulous behavior and further actions are in place as it is imperative that these objectives must and by all means be in connection as well to the values of the organization’s commitment to democracy and human rights, otherwise, it will create a more grave and heightened political issue and crisis and may impede the goals and aspirations of the organization to defend each other.
